- GODOT NEWS
- Communique from Arndt Dettke
-
-
- [Dave's Foreword:] Arndt had become
- busy tweaking and upgrading GoDot. If
- some of these improvements sound like
- something you need, let me know. I
- have included the new GIF converter,
- and it is exactly what I wanted! I can
- make a BMP screen shot with VICE, trim
- it and put it in a GIF with
- PhotoDelux, then use GoDot to bring it
- into a SHP file on the C-64.
-
- By the way, I have had a couple of
- inquiries about using the GIF loader.
-
- First, the GIF files [must] be NOT
- interleaved. You can tell if a GIF is
- NOT interleaved if, on a PC or MAC,
- the picture is loaded in top to
- bottom. PhotoDelux has a place to
- uncheck if you do not want the
- interleave.
-
- Second, you must have Convert GIF or
- the new ConGIF320 Mod loaded into the
- Module area. That is the lower right
- corner of the main screen, with
- "Clipworks" loaded at boot up. Click
- on "Clipworks" and find the GIF
- conversion you want.
-
- Third, you must load the GIF loader
- (of course). Then you are ready to
- load a GIF!
-
- But, enough from me -- let's let
- Arndt tell you what's got into GoDot!
-
-
- On 20th of March, 2002...
-
- Some minor changes which I don't want
- to withhold from you:
-
- - mod.ShowVDCFloyd (shows a 64K VDC
- image selectable as 640x200 or as
- 640x400, depending on where you click
- the Execute button; find out how!) ;-)
-
- - mod..Histogram (I added a button
- to display the graphics screen)
-
- - mod.ClipWorks (the "Only
- loadable"-lock when executed from an
- REU is abolished, and I changed the
- captions of the clip windows)
-
-
- On 18th of March, 2002
-
- Thank you, Nate Dannenberg! ;-) You
- have urged me to write an alternative
- Version of GoDot's GIF decoder module,
- one that produces 320x200 images
- instead of the 160x200 ones like
- before.
-
- Advantage: Once you needed a hires
- conversion of a GIF you had to walk
- the hard way. Now today it's one
- simple procedure.
-
- Disadvantage: the assignment of the
- colors is somewhat coarser, instead of
- scooping from 55 different shades of
- color there are only the 16 built-in
- base colors available. In spite of
- that, magnificent C64 pictures are
- produced which very well -- and are
- good for IFLI mode, too!
-
-
- On 10th of March, 2002
-
- Some American friends of GoDot
- suggested to offer IFLI pictures for
- download from my website. IFLI's are
- pictures which (by a trick) display up
- to 136 different colors on a C64
- screen. A very impressive experience!
-
-
- On 20th of January, 2002
-
- Ldr.4Bit&Mask: It's quite a long time
- I'm laborating on this loader to
- eliminate all those tiny little silly
- bugs. The loader is now capable of
- also retrieving sections of a 4Bit
- image, the so-called Clips. The gadget
- "to Full", however, is still without
- function, you can't yet switch to "to
- Clip" etc. For that purpose mask and
- image data must be synchronized, which
- I haven't yet achieved. But actually,
- the loader all works like the previous
- version.
-
-
- On 16th of January, 2002
-
- Having the right idea is premise to
- programming useful things. Like
- indicating the active partition with
- mod..ChangeParts (the partition you
- are currently in). As you see, I had
- such an idea, and now it works.
-
- The other update refers to
- mod.MaskEd. Similar to mod.PixelEdit
- you are now able to also use the
- gadgets while in edit mode. New is
- "Wipe" to fill the whole visible area
- with the pattern retrieved by CTRL-+
- (assigned to 1 card). Key combination
- for that: CTRL-w.
-
-
- On 3rd of January 2002
-
- Everybody knows that GoDot is able to
- digitize video frames at 12 bit color
- depth (every 4 bits per RGB-color),
- resulting in max. 4096 colors per
- image. These images aren't displayable
- on a C64 but we have a loader (even
- two!) calculating this abundance of
- colors back to multicolor: ldr.4BitRGB
- (and ldr.4BitRGBd, "d" stands for
- "dithered").
-
- Both loaders have been updated now.
- They are now capable of reading an
- image brighter or darker just like
- ldr.GIF does by changing the Balancing
- values before loading.

- [Editor's Note:] LOADSTAR will keep
- you updated on GoDot developments. So,
- let's see what you are doing with this
- remarkable program!!
